Many ways to cope with price hike

Salam,

KUALA LUMPUR: There is no need to take to the streets to show your unhappiness over the recent rise in petrol prices, say consumer associations.
Instead the people should consider car pooling, cutting back on non-essentials and even taking a shorter shower to manage the situation.

Street protests and demonstrations have been held the past two days to protest the fuel price hike, with organisers threatening more protests.

Consumers Association of Penang president S.M. Mohamed Idris said street protests would only create unnecessary unrest without solving anything.

"It is fine to speak out but don't go out to the streets to do it," he said.
To cope with the fuel price increase, he suggested that people adjust their lifestyles.

"For example, if they used to take their families out on weekends to shopping complexes, they should hang out at the parks," he said.

He said companies could help by providing transport for their employees.

Mak Kecik pun ada employees jadi Mak Kecik tahu, sebagaimana dengan gaji minimum, this is easier said than done.

Federation of Malaysian Consumers Associations president Datuk N. Marimuthu agreed with Idris, urging Malaysians to have civilised discussions instead.

"We have to be more responsible, not emotional," he said.

Marimuthu said Fomca had just initiated a 48-month campaign on lifestyle adjustment.

"We will be distributing pamphlets and posters on what consumers can do to change their lifestyles."

He also recommended that consumers visit Fomca's website for tips on how to save on water and energy.

Consumers Association of Subang and Shah Alam president Datuk Jacob George condemned demonstrations against fuel prices, adding that it would only cause unnecessary distress among the public.

He added that now was the time for consumers to be choosy.

"Check and compare prices at outlets before you shop and always look out for sales and discounted items.

"Consumers must also cut down on non-essential items like alcohol and cigarettes," he said.

to be lighted up.
Bila Papa beli rokok, jerit kuat-kuat 'Mama, Papa beli rokok!'

To give credit to Pakcik, Mak Kecik hanya tahu yang dia benar-benar berhenti merokok selepas 3 bulan dia berhenti.

He added consumers need to be more accountable for their money.

"They must reduce the use of credit cards as in the long run they will only become a burden, especially to the middle and lower-income earners," George said.

Mak Kecik ada juga 2,3 kad kredit. Masa mula-mula diberi kad kredit, Mak Kecik tak pernah gunakan sampai Pakcik bertanya, 'Awak tak pandai nak guna ke?' Mak Kecik beritahu Pakcik, 'Jangan cabar saya.' Polisi Mak Kecik senang sahaja: Ada duit, beli. Tak ada duit, duduk diam-diam.

He added that government leaders should lead the way in teaching the people on how to save.

"They need to cut down the expenditure on grand functions which is a waste of money," he said.

Mak Kecik beri 2 kisah benar tentang pembaziran:

Muslim Consumers Association of Malaysia project director Noor Nirwandy Mat Noordin deemed street protests as inappropriate.

He suggested instead that consumers equip themselves with information on how to spend their money wisely.

But those who help organise street protests hold a rather different view, saying that it was one way to send a message to the government.

Teratai state assemblywoman Jenice Lee of DAP wants the government to bring down the petrol price to even lower than the previous RM1.92 per litre price.

"The increase is unjustified. We are an oil-producing country and yet our petrol subsidies are being taken away.

"Look at Saudi Arabia, oil prices the world over are increasing, but they are lowering their petrol prices. How come we are not able to do it?" she asked.

Lee who organised a protest in Ampang yesterday was called to give a police statement as the gathering was held without a permit.

Pas Youth chief Salahuddin Ayub said demonstrations were a way to convey the public outcry over the increase in fuel prices.

"With the demonstrations, we hope the government will listen to our plight and come up with something that can help alleviate the people's burden," he said.

Pas Youth plans to hold a demonstration in Kuala Lumpur next week.

It must be for a worthy cause.

Kata Mak Kecik, ' You are looking at one of them. Do I look like a terrorist?'

Wallahua'lam

Dear Saidatul,

K.Kimah sibuk sikit these few days. Nak update pun tak sempat.
Pauziah was from Perak. I am not so sure if she stayed on for 6th form. Yang K.Kimah tahu, Haini Hassan did 6th form.
Su is probably Dr. Suhaidah Tahir and K.Lid is Nor Lida Bahar, the hockey player.
